About the project
In delivering its extensive and diverse capital works programme, the client identified the need to establish an integrated scheduling and cost management system to efficiently manage the delivery of its projects and assist with resource utilisation and financial reporting.
BDR Projects was engaged to carry out a range of services including implementation of an integrated scheduling, estimating and cost control system, project performance and variance analysis, resource management and capacity planning, cash flow forecasting and systems implementation and automation.
The Integrated Works Scheduling System was developed using the client’s existing toolset (Microsoft 2007). Reports were then developed, which allowed a consolidated view of resource allocations, financial information and cash flow projections across the entire programme of works.
BDR Projects also standardised the estimating process for the four major project categories (Construction Projects, Equipment Purchases, Strategic Planning/Modelling/Reports and Recurrent Projects). A structured estimating system was developed, which integrated with the client’s existing project approval processes and documentation.
BDR Projects’ implemented solution enabled the client to confidently plan, and monitor, the performance of its capital works programme, optimise allocation of resources and provide detailed cash flow projections that are driven by the delivery programme.
In addition, the system provides increased visibility and early warning of project deviations against time and cost, providing the opportunity to take corrective action or to efficiently re-allocate funding in advance.
Ongoing support from BDR Projects maintains the schedules and further deepens the client’s in-house scheduling expertise.
